Job summary

Mercy in Oklahoma City offers a Winter Extern Program for approved registered nurse (RN) or practical nurse (LPN) students. The Nurse Extern participates in clinical work under an RN, assisting with individualized patient care and performing designated procedures and nonclinical tasks within the extern scope.

During the four-week externship, you will work with a preceptor, may shadow other departments, and discover where your passion for nursing is leading you at Mercy.

Qualifications

• Open to unlicensed RN student who will have completed at least two RN clinical semesters and graduate in 2027.
• BLS Certification required before assigned to care for patients independently.

Responsibilities

• Assist in individualized patient care under RN supervision.
• Perform designated clinical procedures and nonclinical tasks within extern scope.
• Shadow in additional departments and work with a preceptor during 4-week externship.

As a student in an approved registered nurse or practical nurse school of nursing, the Nurse Extern student participates in clinical work under the direction of an RN. The Nurse Extern assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient’s highest level of wellness working cooperatively with others as part of the healthcare team and performs designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks within the nurse extern scope.

Winter Extern Program

$18.00/hr

During your 4-week externship experience, you will have the opportunity to experience working with a preceptor. You may also choose to shadow in additional departments. Discover where your passion for nursing is leading you at Mercy!

Qualifications:

This program is open to any unlicensed RN student (cannot have or obtain LPN license before or during the program) who will have completed at least two semesters of RN clinicals) and graduating in 2027.

Certifications: BLS Certification required before assigned to care for patients independently
