Areas include Cath Lab, Critical Care, ER, and more, with potential transition to intern and support for NCLEX review. Eligible applicants are advancing in their RN program, have completed at least one year of clinicals, and hold a current BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Completed one year of RN clinicals at an accredited school of nursing.
• Eligible applicants should be going into the final year of nursing program.
• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on learning in a cardiovascular environment under supervision of an experienced RN.
• Support nursing staff in patient care tasks and clinical procedures.
• Participate in assessments and prepare patients for treatments and exams.

We are currently accepting Nurse Extern applications for Spring/Summer 2027 or Winter 2028 graduates.

Oklahoma Heart Hospital's paid Nurse Extern Program is a truly unique, hands‑on learning opportunity for nursing students prior to their final year of nursing school. The program offers nursing students the opportunity to perform a variety of nursing treatments in a cadiovascular environment, utilize state‑of‑the‑art technology and practice assessment skills under the direction and supervision of an experienced Registered Nurse.

Areas of interest include:

• Cath Lab
• Critical Care
• Emergency Room
• Interventional Unit
• Progressive Coronary Care Unit
• Surgery

Once the Externship has been completed, OHH has the option to retain the Nurse Extern while he/she completes his/her last year of nursing school. After graduation, OHH also encourages a smooth transition from Extern to Intern to RN and pays for a NCLEX Review Course to assist Nurse Interns in preparing for their boards.

Qualifications

Education: Completed one (1) year of RN clinicals at an accredited school of nursing. Eligible applicants should be going in to the final year of nursing program.

Licensure/Certification: Current BLS certification required.
