Job summary

J.Crew Group in New York is seeking a Merchant for Dresses & Skirts to own end-to-end product strategy across everyday to occasion dressing. You will partner with Design, Planning, Marketing and Visual to create compelling assortments that resonate with customers.

The role requires 6+ years in retail merchandising, strong analytics, and a passion for fashion. Base salary ranges from $86,400 to $111,700, with benefits and opportunities for bonus in a collaborative home office environment.

Responsibilities

• Understand trend analysis and translate trend to commercial big ideas, identifying the next big thing.
• Present pre-season strategy to the cross-functional team.
• Partner with Planning to strategize budget, deliver margin targets, and identify departmental opportunities.
• Analyze seasonal and hindsight information, trends, product assortment, and competition to develop the strategy.
• Participate in Design Board Reviews and feedback on silhouette, fabric, and color based on strategy.
• Build the Roadmap for Design articulating newness needs by month with AUC targets and carry-forward direction.
• Approve garment fit on key products and buys, ensuring product execution aligns with design aesthetic and quality standards.
• Drive partnership with Planning and Allocation on reviewing sales, receipts, markdown cadence, and style-color counts.
• Analyze competitive environment and use it to inform leadership with recommendations.
• Plan all merchandise buys in accordance with budget each quarter and present at reviews.
• Translate data into actionable information to drive results in collaboration with Marketing and Visual.

The Role + Purpose:

The Merchant, Dresses & Skirts is a key merchant role on the J.Crew women’s apparel team, responsible for owning the end-to-end product strategy for one of our most versatile categories, spanning everyday to occasion dressing. This role blends creative vision with analytical rigor, partnering closely with Design, Planning, Marketing, and Visual to bring compelling assortments to life that resonate with the J.Crew customer. We welcome candidates from diverse professional backgrounds who bring curiosity, a strong point of view, and a passion for product.

Pre-Season

• Understand trend analysis and translate trend to commercial big ideas, identifying the next big thing.

• Evaluate financial and business indicators, assess reports, and translate data into actionable information to drive results.
• Partner with Marketing, Styling, and Visual to ensure key items and big bets are elevated and supported by the cross-functional team.

Salary Range: $86,400.00 - $111,700.00
