Job summary

Barnsley Resort is seeking a Merchandising Manager to lead planning, selection, and presentation of resort-branded merchandise. You will drive turnover across retail channels with analytics, supplier negotiations, and creative merchandising strategies.

Reporting to the Director of Golf, you will guide assortment, pricing, and markdowns while collaborating with marketing and resort teams to execute member and guest launches. A luxury hospitality mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous cash handling experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree; 2-3 years retail/hotel experience.
  • 3-5 years experience in buying, planning, or category management.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with merchandising/data tools.
  • Creative and commercial mindset with strong brand awareness.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and vendor-management skills.
  • Proven effectiveness working with luxury resort members and across departments.
  • Proficient computer skills with Micros and Excel preferred.

The Merchandising Manager reports to the Director of Golf and is responsible for planning, selecting, presenting, and managing products across retail channels. This role blends analytics, commercial strategy, supplier negotiation, and creative merchandising to ensure the right products are available at the right time and in the right presentation. Responsibilities
  • Forecasting seasonal profits and sales, and optimising the sales volume and profitability of designated product areas
  • Developing and implementing merchandising plans to assist in the marketing and promotion of products
  • Assist members and guests with purchases of merchandise and/or tee times.
  • Daily cash handling, refunds, exchanges, room charges, employee discounts, gift certificates, promotions, credit card purchases, daily shift deposits.
  • Stock, replenish and retrieve merchandise and supplies. Ensure all merchandise is correctly ticketed and priced.
  • Manage retail inventories: Conduct monthly inventory and enter updates in inventory platform.
  • Open and close retail stores.
  • Pack orders to be shipped.
  • Take merchandise orders by telephone.
  • Develop and execute merchandising strategies aligned with financial and brand goals.
  • Lead assortment planning, SKU selection, and seasonal range development.
  • Analyze sales, margin, and inventory data to optimize performance.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms.
  • Oversee product lifecycle from concept to end‑of‑life, including pricing and markdowns.
  • Coordinate with marketing, e‑commerce, and resort teams on special event, member, and guest launches and promotions.
  • Direct visual merchandising for in‑store and online environments.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity.
  • Prepare performance reports and present business cases to leadership.
  • Lead and mentor retail team members.
Qualifications

Previous cash handling experience.

Bachelor's Degree 2-3 years of prior retail/hotel experience or a combination of education and experience.

3-5 years experience in buying, planning, or catefory management.

Stron analytical skills and proficiency with merchandising/data tools.

Creative and commercial mindset with strong brand awareness.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and vendor-management skills

Proven effectiveness in working luxury resort members and guests and across departments.

Proficient computer skills, with knowledge of Micros and Excel preferred.
