Position Purpose

Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) will gain hands-on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. The MASM-IT will undergo a comprehensive training program that includes hands-on experience, mentorship, and leadership development. Throughout their training, MASMs in Training will become familiar with Manager on Duty duties and will learn to oversee the various Merchandising departments (Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing, and Electrical) to ensure the successful execution of key programs that enhance customer service, product availability, and store presentation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Experience (15%): Supervising Associates in selling efforts, leading GET culture, and setting an example. Drive customer service and associate engagement; resolve customer concerns effectively.
2. Operations Management (10%): Perform Opening, Closing MOD, and other store focus responsibilities. Adhere to policies and procedures, maintain SOPs, ensure safety compliance, and mitigate shrink.
3. Safety (10%): Ensure safety and hazmat procedures are followed by self and associates.
4. Sales and Productivity (15%): Collaborate on merchandise placement, signing, stock integrity, and inventory management. Learn to operate store equipment and manage daily financial operations.
5. Training and Preparation (50%): Participate in structured training covering retail management aspects, including staffing, scheduling, stock management, customer issues, performance management, and completing training modules.

Reporting Structure

• Typically reports to the Store Manager
• Has no direct reports

Additional Requirements

• Overnight travel less than 5%
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and handle moderate weight materials
• Comfortable working indoors in a generally pleasant environment

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older
• Legally permitted to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED (minimum)
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred
• Minimum 1 year of work experience, with 3 years preferred
• Minimum 3 years of leadership experience, preferred
