Job summary

Goodwill-of-Greater-Washington- in Sterling, VA is seeking an Inventory Associate to support our fast-paced retail team. You will sort, process, and prepare donated merchandise for display and sale, helping shoppers find items they love while contributing to store productivity.

You will transfer merchandise, evaluate quality, and place items on hangers and racks. Prior warehouse or donation processing experience is a plus, with emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Transfers merchandise from containers to determine appropriateness for the sales floor.
  • Stays abreast of brand names and current styles; prepares items for the floor.
  • Evaluates items for quality, pricing, value and salability; records counts.
  • Sorts items into categories and groups; places items on hangers and racks.
  • Maintains safety practices and productivity quotas; keeps uniform and appearance neat.
  • Assists in collection and stocking of donated merchandise; provides donor service.

Overview

Partner with retail team members in a high-energy, fast-paced environment to perform a variety of critical inventory management responsibilities. You'll sort, process, and prepare donated merchandise for display and sale in your own retail store. Our shoppers will love you!

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. 1. Transfers merchandise from containers to determine appropriateness for the sales floor in accordance with established guidelines.
  2. 2. Stays abreast of brand name, designer labels, current and vintage styles.
  3. 3. Prepare items for the sales floor. Evaluate items to determine quality, pricing, value and salability.
  4. 4. Counts number of items processed and records on official log.
  5. 5. Sorts apparel into boutique, salable, and salvage categories according to quota.
  6. 6. Places items on hangers, places hangers on rolling rack, and transports them to the sales floor keeping similar items grouped.
  7. 7. Counts pieces of clothing and records on Daily Hanger Report.
  8. 8. Places non-sellable merchandise in the appropriate container.
  9. 9. Follows good safety and security practices including reporting safety hazards and injuries to the manager on duty.
  10. 10. Maintains a pace at which one is able to meet required productivity goals (quotas) for pieces processed.
  11. 11. Maintains a clean, neat uniform and appearance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. 1. Assists in the collection and stocking of donated merchandise.
  2. 2. Provides excellent service to Goodwill's donors and retail customers.
  3. 3. Performs other duties as directed.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  1. 1. Ability to perform basic math.
  2. 2. Ability to read, write, and comprehend basic instruction.
  3. 3. Ability to effectively communicate verbally with associates and customers.
  4. 4. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, bending, lifting, kneeling and climbing for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours - per 8 hour shift).
  5. 5. Ability to lift max of 25 lbs pounds frequently.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. 1. A minimum of six months of previous work experience.
  2. 2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. 3. Previous experience working in a warehouse environment.
  4. 4. Previous experience working with merchandise pricing.
  5. 5. Basic computer skills.
  6. 6. Multilingual with proficiency in English.
