Job summary

Gilder Search Group is seeking a seasoned MEP Construction Project Manager for data center projects in Houston, TX. The role focuses on coordinating multiple contractors, managing schedules and budgets, and delivering complex built-to-suit facilities.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years in data center construction, with experience in brownfield and greenfield projects, and strong communication across client teams. Travel to project sites is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–10 years of data center construction industry experience.
• Experience managing data center projects as Owner or GC.
• Experience with brownfield and greenfield data centers.
• Experience on Colo/HPC/Hyperscale data centers.
• Budget management on projects over $200M to $1B+.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure on-time delivery of data center projects.
• Ensure day-to-day project responsibilities are met by contractors and vendors.
• Create and manage project schedules; develop project plans including cost, budget, and timeline.
• Support reporting and RFP processes to contractors; manage change orders.
• Deliver Built to Suit projects with value engineering focus.
• Drive company standards for project delivery and client relations.
• Manage financial aspects of contracts (progress billing, equipment rentals, income/expenses).
• Represent the company in project meetings and coordinate with all departments.
• Maintain logs to track project progress; travel weekly to sites.

MEP Construction Project Manager - Data Centers - Houston, TX

This opportunity is with a leading general contractor of data center construction services. Responsibilities

• Maintain liaison with various contractors and vendors in order to manage the day to day activities that impact the delivery of company’s critical facilities construction projects
• Ensure that all day to day project responsibilities are met by the contractors and vendors on the project
• Manage multiple aspects of the project simultaneously. Assist the Senior Project Manager in negotiating contracts with vendors as necessary. Responsible for creating and managing project schedules
• Put together Project plans – size up, costs, budget, scheduling , timeline, manage change orders, etc.
• Assists with reporting and RFPs to Contractors
• Deliver Built to Suit projects with a heavy emphasis on value-engineering
• Drive Company Standards uniformly as it regards to Project Delivery by all project participants on all projects
• Manage financial aspects of contracts (progress billing, rental equipment, income / expenses) to protect the company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the client
• Represent the company in project meetings
• Act as key Liaison with managers of all company departments
• Maintain all logs required to track the progress of the project

Qualifications

• Experience managing Data Center Construction Projects as an Owner or as a General Contractor
• Experience with converting an existing building into a data center a huge plus / brownfield data center construction a big plus
• Experience with greenfield data center projects
• Experience on Colo / HPC / Hyperscale Data Center Construction Projects
• Experience managing projects with budgets in excess of 200mm - 1bb and above
• Minimum of 5-10 years relevant experience in the Data Center Construction Industry
• BA / BS / Associates Degree a plus
• Client Facing / Client relationship / Client Management skills
• Must be familiar with the design process of building systems for data center and mission critical projects
• Solid Construction Project Management experience
• Effective Communicator – emails, phone and face to face
• Ability to work independently
• Travel weekly to project sites
• Solid Admin skills
• Computer savvy: MS Project, Excel, Oracle Primavera P6, AutoCAD a plus
• Previous experience in the Military / Military Veterans a huge plus! Experience with Electrical / Mechanical: Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.
