Summary: This position is responsible for working with first-generation, low-income high school and college students through the Marshalltown Education Partnership (MEP), a collaborative program supported by local education partners and community organizations. Operating at both the Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and Marshalltown High school locations, the Program Coordinator administers and facilitates the design and implementation of the MEP program plan including activities, policies, fundraising, and budget.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements group and individual strategies to recruit and retain MEP participants and families from the Marshalltown Community School District. Maintains a regular, on-campus schedule at Marshalltown High School (at least twice a week during the academic year). This schedule may be adjusted to include MEP-specific visits to other relevant community locations (e.g., Miller Middle School, local businesses, etc.). Maintains a collaborative relationship with high school counselors and staff to fulfill MEP mission.
- Develops and maintains a broad knowledge of college student services and refers students for specific assistance. Serves as a primary academic advisor for MEP participants attending MCC and coordinates with appropriate staff in the administration of college admissions policies and procedures. Provides advising and support to current and prospective students including: 1) Understanding program of study requirements, graduation procedures, and transfer and articulation information for arts & sciences and vocational-technical programs; 2) knowledge of the financial aid process, especially the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other institutional paperwork.
- Collaborates on MCC retention initiatives and individual student interventions. Assists with all aspects of MEP-related and other MCC recruitment events and activities including but not limited to College Fair, Career Day, Job Fair, Visit Days, and New Student Orientation.
- Leads and facilitates regular meetings of the MEP Steering Committee and appropriate subcommittees. Creates and distributes regular reports regarding outreach activities, contacts, and program “success” (e.g., participant activity/outreach efforts, scholarship status, post-secondary enrollment, post-secondary graduation rates).
- Works and communicates professionally with others. Performs in a manner which benefits student learning.
- Supports the overall success of the District by performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Completion of a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience required. Master’s degree preferred. Related to the demographics of the student population this position serves, the ability to speak and write fluently in both English and Spanish (or the languages of Burma/Myanmar) is required. Valid State Driver’s License.
Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to cultivate good rapport and trust with a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to manage time effectively and accomplish tasks by stated deadlines. Knowledge of IVCCD, MCC, & Departmental operations, services, and policies. Ability to use a computer and a variety of computer software effectively. Knowledge of higher education in general and college student development specifically, especially as it relates to first-generation, low-income and disabled students.
Base Wage: $39,900-$53,000 annually - actual salary will be based on experience and education.
