Job summary

Gray AES is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer-MEP to lead mechanical design across multi-discipline projects in our Atlanta, GA and other regional offices.

You will drive HVAC, piping, and utility system layouts, modeling, and equipment selection with BIM workflows, mentoring junior staff and coordinating with architecture, electrical, and automation teams. Qualified candidates will hold a PE license with 8–10+ years of experience in industrial or commercial facilities, strong Excel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college.
• Professional Engineering License is required.
• 8–10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design engineering for industrial or commercial facilities.
• Strong expertise in HVAC, piping, utility systems and equipment layout.
• Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam and 3D modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and BIM workflows.
• Knowledge of IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA and related mechanical design standards.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering design deliverables across project phases.
• Excellent Excel skills for system analysis and cost modeling.
• Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and their integration into mechanical infrastructure.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead and subject matter expert for mechanical design across complex, capital-intensive projects.
• Lead development of mechanical system architecture, including load calculations, energy modeling, equipment selection, and layout coordination.
• Oversee creation of engineering documentation, including specifications, procurement packages, system diagrams, and commissioning protocols.
• Provide strategic input during project planning, feasibility studies, and client engagements, ensuring alignment with goals and standards.
• Actively contribute to business development through proposal writing, client presentations, and relationship management.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, leading design efforts across FEL/FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning.
• Collaborate with architectural, structural, electrical, and automation disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Represent the mechanical discipline in client-facing engagements, design reviews, site visits, and commissioning activities.
