Our client is a long-established, internationally backed design-build contractor headquartered in Atlanta. They deliver complex facilities across the US from concept through construction, with in-house architecture, engineering and construction teams under one roof.
Their portfolio spans advanced manufacturing, food and beverage processing, warehousing and distribution, and commercial buildings. Clients range from global manufacturers to national logistics operators, and much of the work is repeat business.
The role
The Senior MEP Manager owns mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection delivery across a portfolio of design-build projects, from early design through commissioning and handover.
You will be the company's senior MEP authority: shaping systems design with the in-house engineering team, managing trade partners, controlling MEP cost and schedule risk, and mentoring MEP coordinators and engineers. The role suits someone who enjoys being involved early, influencing design decisions as much as managing installation.
Key responsibilities
Design and preconstruction
- Lead MEP input from concept and schematic design through construction documents, working with in-house and consultant engineers.
- Review drawings, specifications and calculations for constructability, code compliance, energy performance and owner requirements.
- Prepare and validate MEP budgets, estimates and value-engineering options.
- Define MEP scopes of work, run trade partner bid processes and recommend awards.
- Manage MEP trade partners on site for quality, safety, schedule and cost.
- Lead MEP coordination, including BIM/clash detection, RFIs, submittals and change orders.
- Integrate process utilities and specialist systems (compressed air, process cooling, high-voltage distribution, refrigeration) on industrial projects.
- Oversee start-up, testing, commissioning and closeout, including O&M manuals and owner training.
Leadership and commercial
- Act as senior MEP point of contact for clients, design teams and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Track MEP risk, cost and schedule across multiple concurrent projects and report to senior leadership.
- Mentor and develop MEP coordinators, project engineers and field staff.
- Build and maintain a strong network of MEP subcontractors and suppliers across the Southeast and nationally.
Requirements
- 10+ years' MEP experience in commercial or industrial construction, including at least 5 in a senior MEP management role.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven delivery of large design-build or design-assist projects, ideally $50M+.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire protection and building controls.
- Experience with MEP estimating, scoping, buyout and trade partner management.
- Familiarity with BIM coordination tools (e.g. Revit, Navisworks) and project platforms such as Procore.
- Sound knowledge of IBC, NEC, IMC, IPC and NFPA codes.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence, or LEED AP / commissioning credentials.
- Industrial, manufacturing, food processing or distribution centre experience, including process utilities.
- Experience working with international or global clients.
Personal attributes
- Confident communicator, comfortable with clients, designers and trades alike.
- Commercially aware, organised and able to juggle several projects at once.
- A hands-on leader who enjoys developing others.
What's on offer
- Competitive base salary plus annual bonus (range to confirm with client).
- Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision and 401(k) (details to confirm).
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Ongoing professional development and support towards licences and certifications.
- A senior role with real influence on design and delivery, in a stable, well-backed business.
