Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced estimator for piping systems to develop detailed takeoffs and cost estimates across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

You will analyze complex drawings, isometrics, and 3D models, perform sizing calculations, and coordinate with teams to ensure accurate bids and smooth handoffs.

Qualifications

• AA degree in construction management or related field required.
• Experience with estimating piping systems for commercial/industrial projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for 2D/3D takeoffs and modeling.
• Familiarity with Trimble Autobid Mechanical software preferred.
• Knowledge of P&IDs, PFDs, isometrics and 3D models recommended.
• Detail-oriented with ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

Job description

• Develop detailed material takeoffs and cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure piping systems with minimal oversight
• Analyze project specifications, drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, isometrics, and 3D models to quantify piping materials, valves, fittings, supports, insulation, and specialty components
• Perform engineering-based calculations related to pipe sizing, system layouts, and constructability
• Estimate labor, equipment, installation, and indirect costs based on project scope
• Contribute to proposal and bid package development, including scope definitions, assumptions, clarifications, and material buy lists
• Provide support to internal and external customers regarding designs, estimates, materials, products, schedules, and project-specific questions
• Support post-bid activities with final material lists and handoff documentation
• Review estimates and documentation produced by team members for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GF and industry standards
• Support team members with all aspects of the estimating process
• Identify project risks, constructability challenges, and value-engineering opportunities
• Share best practices, lessons learned, and process efficiencies
• Maintain documentation according to GF quality and record-keeping standards
• Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and team initiatives
• Pursue continuous learning and expand technical knowledge across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure piping systems
• Work with leadership on personal development, career growth, and broader business initiatives

Requirements

• Requires an AA degree (or equivalent) in construction management, engineering, architecture, drafting, or MEP systems
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Experience with Trimble Autobid Mechanical preferred
• Familiarity with Autodesk software, focusing on AutoCAD and Revit
• Familiarity with Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office platforms
• Experienced knowledge of estimating techniques, commercial or industrial piping systems, construction methods, building materials, pipe sizing, and model codes
• Professional attitude and demeanor
• Detail-oriented, able to work well under pressure, and able to meet deadlines
• 2+ years of trade design experience
• 4+ years of AutoCAD, Revit, or estimation software experience
• CPDT (Certified Plumbing Design Technician) preferred
