Job summary

Davenport Management & Consulting seeks a Construction Manager to oversee all aspects of assigned MEP construction projects on a full-time contract basis (~24 months). You will drive resource planning, cost control, and schedule adherence, ensuring safety, ethics, and compliance at every stage.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture — or equivalent work-related experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a MEP Site Superintendent is required.
  • Broad knowledge of commercial/contractual complexity/deal structure/financial acumen.
  • Understanding of construction management methods and processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and BAS Controls methods, building products, and building codes.
  • Strong leadership and crisis resolution skills.
  • Ability to break large projects into small steps.
  • Direct management experience with projects related to HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire protection Controls/BAS, Lighting, and Renewable Energy systems is required.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong Personal Computer in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Bluebeam, Teams and basic Windows environment.
  • Ability to travel as required; projects may exist outside of the assigned geography.
  • OSHA 30 Certification

Responsibilities

  • Manage materials procurement and delivery for projects.
  • Attend job progress meetings and align subcontractors with expectations.

  • Establish customer touch points for feedback.
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and internal partners.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Position Summary:

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) contract position with an expected duration of approximately 24 months.


Role Description:

This is a contract (~ 24 month) 40 hour/week position for an MEP Construction Manager. We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Construction Manager to join our team. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of the assigned construction projects and ensure they progress on schedule and within budget. This position oversees resource planning, cost control, scope management, and schedule adherence while championing safety, ethics, and compliance at every stage. The Construction Manager cultivates strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, and internal partners to ensure profitable, on-time, and high-quality project delivery. Success is measured by customer engagement, project profitability, positive cash flow, and timely project completion. The ideal candidate is an expert in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and BAS Controls methods and has a proven track record of successful management of projects.


This is a contract role.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for following consistent and repeatable project management procedures and processes.

  • Maintains an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results

  • Manages the scope, costs, resources and risks on assigned projects to deliver the projects on time and within the budget.

  • Acts as the primary on-site leader for execution teams on assigned projects.

  • Evaluates the contractual scope of work and the impact of client issued Instructions / Notices, field directives and / or scheduling changes.

  • Actively pursues change orders for these and for additional work. Performs associated cost estimates, prepares proposals and negotiates final settlement price and customer acceptance.

  • Reviews and interprets contract Terms and Conditions.

  • Analyzes financial reporting systems and project schedules to proactively address potential problems.

  • Ensures project document controls comply with contract requirements and company standards.

  • Manages the selection, ordering, and delivery schedule of materials to be procured for the projects assigned.

  • Attends job progress meetings as required. Ensures subcontractors understand expectations of the project.

  • Facilitates escalation of product related problems.

  • Coordinates customer-training requirements.

  • Manage the profitable execution of assigned projects.

  • Understand project scope and customer expectation.

  • Ensure business is conducted with the highest ethical standards.

  • Develops and adheres to a Project Execution Plan for each assigned project.

  • Schedule key deliverables and milestones and ensure progress is being made

  • Plans, schedules, and controls project activities.

  • Assist in cost estimating and cost reviews of assigned projects.

  • Ensure that assigned projects are done accurately, on-time, and within scope of the contract.

  • Determines resource levels required to attain schedule milestones and monitors workforce levels for conformance with the construction plan.

  • Utilize resource planning techniques to gain high productivity from team members.

  • Ensures all scope changes are promptly documented and that change orders are approved prior to the performance of work.

  • Effectively communicate the status of assigned projects to the Management Team of revenue, costs, and gross margin.

  • Establish customer touch points throughout the life cycle of projects to gain feedback on customer satisfaction.

  • Fosters and maintains good working relationships with subcontractors and internal partners.

  • Ensures compliance with provincial, local and federal legal requirements.

  • Champions and drives the Company Safety Program for employees and subcontractors at all levels.
