Job summary

Southland Industries in Houston seeks a skilled technician to support construction projects by creating and coordinating shop drawings, BIM modeling, and MEP systems. You will work across design and field teams to improve accuracy, reduce errors, and keep documentation organized so information is easy to retrieve.

Responsibilities include handling RFI and drawing distribution, producing mechanical shop drawings, detailing equipment layouts, and delivering 3D models.

Qualifications

• High School or GED and 2 years of related experience or trade apprentice program completion.
• Good understanding of craft and ability to read construction documents.
• Knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping and Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods.
• Familiarity with AEC, BIM, CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

• Receives, logs, tracks, expedites and distributes shop drawings, RFIs and other docs.
• Creates shop drawings for mechanical systems in construction projects.
• Produces equipment, room layout and detail drawings.
• Maintains document control so information is retrievable and understandable.
• Provides 3D modeling using BIM and coordinating MEP systems.
• Attends meetings and collaborates with design and build teams to reduce design-related errors.
