Job summary

ASM Global-SMG is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice to support mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems maintenance at NRG Park in Houston, Texas. The apprentice will assist in maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems.

The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED, be able to lift up to 75 lbs, and have some experience or coursework related to HVAC or refrigeration.

Qualifications

• Must obtain a Boiler Permit within 60 days of employment.
• Experience or coursework in HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical maintenance is preferred.
• EPA Type I, II, III refrigeration certification or 1 year certificate in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration is a plus.

Overview

Legends Global is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice to work at NRG Park in Houston, Texas. This role supports the maintenance of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems across NRG Park's venues under general supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing kitchen mechanical exhaust fans, refrigeration and chilled water equipment.
• Repair and maintain HVAC, chilled water systems, air handler units, refrigerant reclamation, water treatment equipment.
• Perform coil cleaning, preventative maintenance on all types of equipment, and repair fountain water systems and related mechanical systems.
• Maintain domestic hot and cold‑water systems, sanitary pumps, tanks, fittings, valves, surge supply tanks and plumbing supplies.
• Respond to building service calls, troubleshoot problems, take corrective action.
• Assist preventive maintenance on plumbing and HVAC systems in multiple buildings.
• Repair, inspect and rebuild equipment to meet quality standards.
• Perform work in a manner consistent with plant safety, housekeeping standards and quality checks.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain a Boiler Permit within 60 days of employment.
• Experience or coursework in HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical maintenance is preferred.
• EPA Type I, II, III refrigeration certification or 1 year certificate in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration is a plus.
• Knowledge of plumbing equipment operation, augers, and sewer machines.
• Basic hand and power tool proficiency.
• Ability to uphold Legends Global safety standards and provide exceptional customer service.
• Effective communication, independent judgment, and initiative.
• Ability to work fast‑paced, flexible schedule, and under pressure.
• Capacity to lift up to 75 lbs and stand for 8–10 hours a day.
• License to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
• Must possess any licenses, certificates or training required for operation of equipment.

Skills and Abilities

• Proper knowledge and usage of all equipment needed to perform duties.
• Familiarity with Life Safety Systems and safety precautions.
• Understanding of building codes, rules, regulations, risk management and emergency procedures.
• Computer skills: MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, interpret technical instructions, prioritise work.

Physical Demands

Regular movement around facility, standing for long hours, frequent lifting and carrying, climbing, working inside or outside building, and performing strenuous physical duties including lifting up to 75 lbs.
