Manassas City Public Schools in Manassas, Virginia seeks a MAPS Collaborator to provide targeted support to instructional staff, improve classroom practices, and enhance student achievement.

The position is temporary with hourly pay ($48.56/hr) and requires seven years of teaching experience; a teaching license is preferred. Collaboration with the Professional Learning Coordinator and maintaining MAPS documentation are essential. Immediate start and 5–40 hours weekly.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Teacher Performance Standards and Virginia Standards of Learning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and build positive professional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support to assigned instructional staff to improve student achievement and instruction.
  • Model or co-teach lessons and assist with lesson planning.
  • Observe teachers and provide verbal and written feedback.
  • Coordinate with MAPS resources and Professional Learning Coordinator.
  • Attend MAPS program meetings and maintain paperwork.

Job Description

Position Title: Mentoring & Professional Growth Support (MAPS) Collaborator

Minimum of 5 hours worked weekly; maximum of 40 hours

General Responsibilities: Provide targeted support and guidance to assigned instructional staff resulting in improved student achievement and instruction.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides support in the development of instructional skills and classroom management capabilities for assigned teachers through a comprehensive, focused approach.
  • Models or co-teaches lessons.
  • Assists the assigned teacher with lesson planning.
  • Observes the assigned teacher and provides verbal and written feedback.
  • Provides and facilitates information and use of MCPS resources.
  • Arranges peer observations and accompany the MAPS Teacher on these visits
  • Engages in problem-solving discussions for individual students.
  • Sit in Collaborative Learning Team meetings to learn about current units, instructional plans, and suggested instructional strategies
  • Provide constructive advice related to the identified areas for support
  • Maintains confidentiality of MAPS Teacher in alignment with MAPS Program expectations.
  • Collaborates with Professional Learning Coordinator to maximize opportunities offered.
  • Attends MAPS Program meetings as scheduled to ensure successful implementation.
  • Maintains MAPS Program paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Teacher Performance Standards and Virginia Standards of Learning.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in instructional and learning
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships.
  • Commitment to supporting teacher development.
  • Experience in building teacher capacity.

Requisite Education and Experience:

  • Must possess a Teaching License preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ successful teaching experience in public education
  • Experience in building teacher capacity through roles such as mentor, coach, team leaders, etc. Administrative experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
