The Emerging Educators Pathway at the Armed Services YMCA Norfolk Child Development Center offers a six-week on-the-job training program for individuals with little or no experience in Early Childhood Education. Qualifications

• You must be 18 years of age or older.
• You must pass Federal, State, Child Protective Services Checks and other background checks.
• Commitment to attending 90%+ of academy program activity is required.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical and show immunizations.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Participate in ongoing assessments of children including observations and developmental checklists.
• Observe developmentally appropriate practices to support learning and development.
• Learn to be inclusive of children with different abilities and follow IEP/IFSP.
• Assist with the daily program balancing activities, play, dining, and transitions.
• Collaborate with a lead teacher to develop and implement lesson plans.
• Provide opportunities for creative self-expression through art, music, movement, and drama.
• Support social and emotional development by building trust and positive relationships.
• Encourage positive guidance with clear limits and expectations.
• Support home language, culture, and family composition.
