Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs is seeking a Mentor Teacher to guide new teachers through Lincoln County’s transition into professional roles. This 200‑day extracurricular contract involves observations, weekly meetings with mentees, and collaboration with the mentor team.

The role requires a valid WV Teaching Certificate, mentor training, and prior teaching experience. The mentor will facilitate planning, provide feedback, and model diverse instructional strategies to support growth.

Qualifications

• Valid WV Teaching Certificate.
• Training as a mentor teacher.
• Experience and degree in same teaching field preferred.
• Located in the same school preferred.
• Successful evaluations over the last two years.

Responsibilities

• Joint planning time when possible.
• Weekly observations of the beginning teacher/administrator during the first half of the year.
• Weekly meetings with the intern to discuss performance issues and improvement areas.
• Attend monthly meetings of the mentor support team.
• Help determine the need and delivery of staff development for beginning teacher/administrator.
• Model a variety of educational strategies.
• Demonstrate effective professional behaviors.
• Be a skilled communicator.
• Identify resources and plan long-term goals.
