Job description

The Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a compassionate, talented Mental Health Worker to join a dynamic team.

The selected candidate will provide programmatic direct care services to clients, assist in implementing rehabilitative behavior and recreational programs, perform client-related housekeeping duties, attend client review meetings, accompany clients to various appointments, and provide leisure activities.

Responsibilities include:

• Completing MHW admission information through interviewing, orienting, and documenting client data.
• Promoting effective interpersonal and community relations to ensure quality care and enhance the center's image.
• Ensuring daily coverage and duties are completed according to policy to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Overseeing crisis situations using hospital policies to promote safety and least restrictive interventions.
• Engaging in ongoing staff development to enhance skills and role development.
• Maintaining a safe, clean, and respectful environment in compliance with regulations.

Required qualifications:

• Knowledge of principles and techniques in caring for mentally ill individuals.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Skill in observing and questioning individuals to gather information.
• Capacity to interact effectively under physical and emotional stress.
• Ability to work in team and group settings.
• Capacity to transport heavy objects or persons.
• Knowledge of safety practices in mental health facilities, including evacuation procedures.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with individuals with serious mental illness, substance abuse issues, or homelessness.
• Bilingual or multilingual proficiency, given the population served.

Additional details: This is a 40-hour/week, second shift position (2:45 pm - 11:15 pm). Days off alternate weekly. Mandatory overtime may be required.

About the center: The Fuller provides inpatient psychiatric care, forensic evaluations, and supports recovery through ongoing treatment, fostering an environment of compassion, hope, and respect for individual strengths.
