Job description

The Mental Health Counselor works within an interdisciplinary team to provide mental health and addiction counseling. The primary functions of the Licensed Clinical Therapist include conducting assessments, providing treatments, psychotherapy, case management, and making referrals to a diverse client base, including those with severe mental illnesses and adjustment issues. They offer individual, couples, family, and group therapy for clients ranging from children to the elderly. The role involves assessing issues, determining suitable treatment interventions, and implementing appropriate methodologies.

Telehealth

Clients may choose to receive services via live video conference using a HIPAA-compliant platform similar to outpatient psychiatry. All staff providing telehealth services must complete an online telehealth training program. The program ensures clinicians understand when virtual care is appropriate, how to communicate effectively with virtual patients, evaluate signs and symptoms remotely, and adhere to best practices for delivering virtual care.

Requirements

Job Qualifications:

  • Master of Science or Arts in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field; master’s degree preferred. (e.g., LGPC, LMSW, LCPC, LCSW-C)
  • Ability to work independently, manage staff, provide guidance, and work under pressure.
  • Over two years of experience working with trauma, addiction, and other clinical diagnoses.
  • Experience with multicultural groups, previous work in multicultural settings, and willingness to pursue additional language and multicultural coursework if needed.
  • Fingerprint clearance, drug testing, physical exam, and TB test clearance.

Preferred Skills:

  • Relevant skills, experience, and education.
  • Experience working in urban environments or with gender-responsive care.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care systems.
  • Experience with trauma-informed services, cognitive-behavioral therapies including DBT, motivational therapies, and use of incentives.
  • Knowledge of recovery support systems and 12-Step programs (not mandatory but preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal, engagement, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to support the agency’s mission, demonstrate cultural sensitivity, and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to organizational needs.
  • Proficiency in assessment, problem-solving, leadership, quality management, judgment, planning, safety, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Ability to lift 10-15 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to sit for 5-8 hours and stand for 2-3 hours.
  • Compliance with all safety protocols related to treatment.
