Job summary

Options Counseling and Family Services, based in Oregon, seeks a Mental Health Therapist to provide individual, family, and group therapy for children, adults, and families. May include case management and collaboration with PCPs, ODHS, schools, and community partners.

Requires a Master’s or Doctorate in counseling/psychology/social work, QMHP eligibility, Oregon licensure eligibility, and proficiency with electronic records and telehealth.

Responsibilities

• Direct Client Services: Interview client, obtain background and assessment information; conduct mental health assessments for children and adults; provide therapy and case management; develop and revise treatment plans.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate client records, including service plans and notes; coordinate services across agencies; work with psychiatrists and other providers; coordinate with ODHS/CCO for referrals.
• Other duties: Attend clinical supervision; stay current on evidence-based practices; report suspected abuse; maintain confidentiality.

Description/Qualifications

General Description:

The Mental Health Therapist provides individual, family, and group therapy to children, adults, and families. They may also provide case management and consultation with PCPs, schools, ODHS Child Welfare and Self Sufficiency programs, and other community partners. Clients are self-referred or referred through partnerships with local schools, primary care physicians, hospitals, or ODHS Child Welfare or Self Sufficiency. Options accepts both commercial insurance and Oregon Health Plan.

Required Qualifications:

• Masters or doctorate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
• Must be able to qualify as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and be eligible for registration as an associate (Social Work Associate, Professional Counselor Associate, Marriage and Family Associate), a Psychology Resident or licensure in the State of Oregon.
• Knowledge and/or experience providing mental health services, including assessment and diagnosis, to children, families, and/or adults.
• Must be computer proficient.
• Must have respectful, open, accepting attitude toward clients and their families.
• Must be able to pass a ODHS background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the impact of trauma and experience working with individuals and families from a systemic lens.
• Knowledge of best practice methods of treatment for serious and persistent mental illness and the impacts of co-occurring disorders.
• Strong understanding of evidence-based practice and the role of feedback informed treatment.
• Experience with record keeping software preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• 65% - Direct Client Services
  • Interview client to obtain information concerning family history or other assessment information
  • Conduct mental health assessments for children and adults, including DSM-V diagnosis
  • Provide therapy and case management services in the office or through telehealth
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, defining specific goals and objectives, and revise as needed
• 25% - Documentation
  • Maintain accurate and current client records, including timely Service Plans, authorization requests, and service notes within the electronic client record (ECR), and sign documents to meet federal and state regulatory standards
  • Coordinate access and provision of services from multiple agencies, including establishing service linkages, advocating for service needs, and obtaining entitlements based on mental or emotional disability
  • Work closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses to coordinate treatment
  • Coordinate case activities with treatment team partners including, when applicable, ODHS/Child Welfare, primary care physicians, schools, and others
  • Refer client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling as appropriate
  • Make requests for authorization for services to the local Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) as required
  • Coordinate with ODHS and the local CCO regarding referrals as directed
• 10% - Other duties
  • Attend and participate in regular clinical supervision (minimum of two times a month) and team meetings, as directed
  • Remain current on relevant research and evidenced based practices
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect
  • Maintain client confidentiality according to state guidelines

Working Conditions:

• Extended periods of time sitting or standing at workstation updating client records, phone work, and therapy sessions
• Mobility and dexterity sufficient to assist clients and handle required job related functions and move about the facility
• Ability to manage clients who may use offensive language or challenging behaviors
• May be required to work afternoons or some evenings
