Job summary

Youth & Family Services (YFS) Counseling Center in Rapid City, SD seeks a Mental Health Therapist to deliver counseling to youths and their families. This full-time role involves intake assessments, individual/group/family therapy, and collaboration with local resources to support clients’ recovery and well-being.

The position requires a Master’s degree in counseling or related field, licensing preference, and experience in crisis intervention.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field preferred.
• Candidates in final year of graduate study and enrolled in internship classes may be considered.
• Preference given to those currently licensed and/or have completed a counseling/social work internship at YFS Counseling Center.
• Background in crisis intervention; alcohol & drug abuse prevention and counseling; family and individual counseling; mental health evaluation and diagnosis; family systems; community networking; and public relations.

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling services to youth and their families experiencing problems related to substance abuse, family systems issues or other life difficulties.
• Complete intake assessments including scoring and data entry for referred clients.
• Offer individual, group, and family counseling.
• Develop and utilize a network of community resources for referrals and case management.
• Ensure timely case documentation in line with standards and quality assurance.
• Provide crisis intervention services to youth and families.
• Maintain productivity goal of 4.5 client contact hours per eight-hour day.
• Adhere to ethical standards whether licensed or pursuing licensure.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related field is preferred. Essential Functions:

• Serve as therapist providing counseling services to youth and their families, who are experiencing problems related to substance abuse, family systems issues or other life difficulties.
• Complete intake assessments, including scoring and date entry on clients referred to the Counseling Center or Youth Trauma Center.
• Provide individual, group and family counseling to youth and their families.
• Develop and utilize a network of associated community resources for purposes of referrals if clientele are deemed inappropriate for programming efforts and for case management activities associated with the position.
• Ensure case documentation is recorded in a timely manner, and in strictest compliance with Performance Standards and quality assurance.
• Provide crisis intervention services to youth and their families.
• Maintain productivity average of 4.5 client service hours per eight hour day.
• Adhere with all ethical standards while licensed or working towards licensure.

Additional Functions: Comply with administrative requests for reporting, record keeping, fundraising, public relations, and training. Provide information and referral services to clientele regarding local sexual abuse, alcohol and drug treatment programs, prevention/intervention programs and other essential service providers. Perform additional duties as requested by supervisor. Ensure that all therapeutic and office staff who work in the Counseling Center adopt and maintain a friendly and welcoming attitude toward all clients regardless of their issue(s) or stage of recovery.
