Job summary

The McLean Hospital Corporation in Belmont, MA seeks a Nursing Assistant (MHS) to provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN. You will assist with patient rounds, document notes, and help maintain a therapeutic milieu in a psychiatric setting.

Responsibilities include de-escalation of crises, adherence to care standards, and collaboration with nursing staff to ensure safe, organized care for patients according to unit policies.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required; experience cannot fully substitute the degree.
• Epic training within 30 days of hire; passing (80% or higher) of Epic modules is required.
• One year of clinical experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting; 1–2 years preferred; prior direct patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists the RN in providing direct patient care.
• Documents AFS, progress notes, and observation sheets accurately and timely.
• Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Participates in patient rounds or teams.
• Works to de-escalate crisis situations and promote least restrictive interventions.
• Intervenes in managing complex patient situations following department policies and procedures.
• Communicates changes in patient status to the RN.
• Follows Standards of Care and unit protocols.
• Maintains patient safety and environment, and supports daily activities.
• Provides and supervises recreation and other off-hall activities as needed.
• Assists with patient hygiene and daily living activities.
• Assists with nutrition needs and escorts patients during tests and procedures.
