Job summary

Cooper University Health Care is seeking a mental health support role to assist the Registered Nurse in providing direct and indirect patient care in a multidisciplinary unit.

The position requires 2 years in mental health settings, an Associate degree (Bachelor's preferred), and a valid AHA BLS certification. CPI/Handle with Care are advantageous, with a schedule that includes 7AM–7PM shifts and rotating weekends.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a mental health, forensic or addictions setting.
  • AHA BLS required.
  • CPI, Handle with Care, Aggression Management certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Registered Nurse in providing direct, indirect and non-patient care responsibilities.
  • Contributes to quality patient care by serving on the multidisciplinary treatment team with groups and milieu counseling.
  • Performs patient care observation rounds, 1:1 observation, environmental rounds, vital signs and glucose checks.
  • Performs specimen collections, treatment planning, patient education, visitor and meal monitoring, belongings and body checks.
  • Uses verbal de-escalation techniques to manage disruptive patient behaviors and participates in Code Grey if needed.
  • Performs clerical functions to support clinical operations of the unit.

Short Description
  • Assists the Registered Nurse in providing direct, indirect and non-patient care responsibilities.
  • Contributes to quality patient care by serving as a significant member of the multidisciplinary treatment team in providing therapeutic groups and activities, milieu counseling and management.
  • Performs patient care observation rounds, 1:1 observation, environmental rounds, vital signs, control logs, glucose checks, specimen collections, treatment planning, patient education, visitor & meal monitoring, belongings and body checks and documentation as needed.
  • Uses verbal de-escalation techniques to manage disruptive patient behaviors, in addition to limit-setting and physical restraint application as directed, and functions as a valuable member of the treatment team during a psychiatric code and Code Grey.
  • Performs clerical functions to support the clinical operations of the unit.
Experience Required

Minimum of 2 years' experience in a mental health, forensic or addictions setting.

Education Requirements

Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred, in Psychology or related study.

License/Certification Requirements

AHA BLS required.

Special Requirements
  • CPI, Handle with Care, Aggression Management certification is preferred.
Shift Requirements
  • 7AM-7PM
  • 4 shifts every 6 weeks
  • 3 weekend shifts, 1 weekday
  • 1 major winter, 1 major summer, & 1 hallmark holiday
