Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Mental Health Technician (MHT) is responsible for observing and recording patient information relevant to the treatment plan, welcoming new patients through specific admission protocols, assisting with patient discharge, maintaining direct patient observation, leading patient education, community, goal, and activity groups, and assisting nursing staff by taking vital signs and helping patients perform ADLs. Due to high visibility and significant patient interaction, this position is often the first responder to various situations such as codes, behavioral outbursts, contraband attempts, and medical issues. The MHT adjusts therapeutic approaches based on acuity, age, gender, and cultural considerations. This role does not assume independent responsibility for patient care. All duties are performed in accordance with Voyages Behavioral Health policies, procedures, and guidelines.
