Argon Agency is seeking dedicated Mental Health Technicians to join our residential program in Ohio. The MHT role provides direct care, supervision, and emotional support to patients with various mental health diagnoses within a structured, therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities include monitoring patient activities, supporting therapy groups and activities, documenting in the EHR, assisting with admissions/discharges, and collaborating with clinical teams to ensure safe, stable care delivery.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in behavioral health / residential setting.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
  • Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and document patients’ activities, behaviors, and safety throughout their daily schedule.
  • Provide compassionate emotional support while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Conduct room and safety checks per facility protocol.
  • Support patients through distress or crises using de-escalation techniques.
  • Encourage attendance at group therapy and daily living activities.
  • Co-facilitate groups under clinical staff guidance and observe engagement.
  • Document patient interactions in the EHR accurately.
  • Assist with admissions and discharges, orientation, and paperwork.
  • Support medication observation and documentation as allowed by licensing.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in residential areas; report safety concerns.
  • Collaborate with clinical, medical, and administrative teams during handoffs.

Job description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) to join our residential mental health treatment program. This role is essential in supporting patients diagnosed with primary mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder. The MHT provides direct care, supervision, and emotional support to patients in a structured, therapeutic environment. Working under the direction of clinical and nursing staff, the MHT helps maintain a safe, stable atmosphere conducive to healing and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Support & Supervision:
    • Monitor and document patients’ activities, behaviors, and safety throughout their daily schedule.
    • Provide consistent and compassionate emotional support while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
    • Conduct regular room and safety checks in accordance with facility protocol.
    • Support patients through emotional distress or crises using de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed care.
  • Therapeutic Programming:
    • Encourage and assist patients in attending group therapy, individual sessions, recreational activities, and daily living skills development.
    • Co-facilitate or support therapeutic groups and structured activities under the guidance of clinical staff.
    • Observe and report patients’ participation and engagement to the treatment team.
  • Clinical and Operational Duties:
    • Accurately document patient interactions, behaviors, and incident reports in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
    • Assist with admission and discharge processes, including orientation, belongings searches, and documentation.
    • Support with medication observation and documentation (as allowed per licensing).
    • Maintain cleanliness and order of residential areas, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with clinical, medical, and administrative teams during shift handoffs and multidisciplinary meetings.
    • Uphold program structure and provide feedback to improve patient experience and outcomes.
    • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a behavioral health, mental health, or residential treatment setting
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen
  • Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (e.g., Kipu, ZenCharts)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Handle With Care, or similar training
  • Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness (SMI)
