Norman Regional Health System and Oceans Healthcare have partnered to expand access to behavioral health services in south central Oklahoma through construction of a new, state-of-the-art behavioral hospital, opening Summer 2024.

The Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village, a 48-bed facility, will significantly increase Norman Regional Health System’s inpatient capacity for adult and senior behavioral health patients, adding new services including an intensive outpatient program and a dedicated geriatric behavioral health unit. The hospital will be located on the Norman Regional Porter campus, replacing the existing 20-bed behavioral health unit.

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) supports nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment by performing routine tasks and patient care activities within their training scope. The MHT ensures a safe, professional standard of patient care according to regulations, hospital policies, and performance standards.

Essential Functions:

1. Adhere to professional standards, policies, procedures, and regulations including Joint Commission standards.
2. Apply supportive behavior to assist in controlling patients exhibiting unacceptable behavior, employing de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
3. Accurately inventory patient belongings, secure contraband, and complete safety checks.
4. Follow infection control policies and attend required training.
5. Assist with patient care under licensed nurse supervision, including vital signs, weights, ADL, documentation, and nutritional monitoring, ensuring dietary restrictions and preferences are respected.
6. Help patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, mobility, and maintaining belongings.
7. Tailor patient care activities to age, disability, and cultural needs.
8. Document patient observations and activities accurately and timely, including patient departures and significant occurrences.
9. Communicate task outcomes and follow-up needs to nursing staff to ensure continuity of care.
10. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education / Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, CNA certification, or at least 6 months of bedside patient care experience.

Skills / Qualifications: Ability to read, write, follow instructions, communicate effectively, work well with diverse populations, and demonstrate empathy and integrity. Must complete CPR and behavioral de-escalation training.
