Join to apply for the Mental Health Technician PRN Days role at Oceans Healthcare

Norman Regional Health System and Oceans Healthcare have partnered to expand access to behavioral health services in south central Oklahoma through the construction of a new, state-of-the-art behavioral hospital, opening Summer 2024.

The Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village, a 48-bed facility, will more than double Norman Regional Health System’s inpatient capacity for adult and senior behavioral health patients and introduce new services, including an intensive outpatient program and a dedicated geriatric behavioral health unit. The hospital will be located on the Norman Regional Porter campus, replacing the existing 20-bed behavioral health unit.

Role Summary

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) supports nursing staff by performing routine tasks and patient care activities within their training scope. The MHT ensures a safe, therapeutic environment in compliance with Joint Commission, Federal, State regulations, and Oceans Healthcare standards.

Essential Functions
  1. Adhere to professional standards, policies, and regulations.
  2. Employ supportive behavior and de-escalation techniques for managing unacceptable patient behavior.
  3. Inventory patient belongings, secure contraband, and perform safety checks.
  4. Follow infection control policies and participate in required training.
  5. Assist with patient care under supervision, including vital signs, documentation, and nutritional monitoring.
  6. Support patients with daily activities and mobility needs, respecting individual age, disability, and cultural considerations.
  7. Document observations and patient movements accurately and timely.
  8. Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding patient care and ongoing activities.
  9. Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements

Education / Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, CNA certification, or at least 6 months of bedside patient care experience.

Skills / Qualifications: Ability to read, write, follow instructions, and communicate effectively. Good physical and mental health, empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, and cultural sensitivity. Successful completion of CPR and behavioral de-escalation training is required.
