Job summary

Midwest Center for Youth and Families, part of Universal Health Services, is hiring a Mental Health Technician to support 10–18 year olds in a DBT-focused residential program. This full-time role offers shift premiums for evenings, nights, and weekends in a fully accredited facility.

The MHT will help maintain a safe environment, implement treatment plans, document patient behaviors, lead groups, coach DBT skills, and manage crisis situations with strong empathy and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor's preferred in a related field.
  • One year of experience in a psychiatric setting with patients aged 10–18 preferred.
  • College student pursuing a degree in behavioral health, psychology, nursing or human services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Implement elements of treatment plans and interventions to provide quality care.
  • Document and communicate client behaviors.
  • Follow clinical and unit programming.
  • Assist with patient groups and activities.
  • Provide DBT skills coaching with patients.
  • Maintain therapeutic boundaries and utilize crisis intervention techniques.

Mental Health Technician Opportunity - Midwest Center for Youth and Families

Midwest Center for Youth and Families (a subsidiary of UHS) has been operating since 1997, serving youth across the country in need of psychiatric treatment for a variety of mental health issues. The facility is a fully accredited, 74‑bed private residential treatment center with locations in Valparaiso and Kouts, IN. We are dedicated to caring for the hearts and minds of our patients with compassion and superior quality behavioral healthcare services through our full‑immersion Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program for children and adolescents ages 10‑18 who struggle with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges.

Responsibilities

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) is a vital part of our treatment team. This is a full‑time, 40‑hour per week position with shift premiums and differential pay for evening, night, and weekend shifts.

Current Openings
  • Midwest Center is currently hiring for the day (7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.), evening shift (3 p.m. – 11 p.m.) and overnight (11 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.) shift.
  • Midwest Center is also accepting applications for individuals looking for a Per Diem / PRN position. PRN requires working 1 weekday and 1 weekend day per biweekly pay period.
