The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is currently looking for a Mental Health Technician to join our team of dedicated professionals.

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is a 156-bed private behavioral health system located on 13 acres in the Greenville, South Carolina Area. Specializing in psychiatric programs and substance abuse treatments such as detox and rehab, The Carolina Center serves Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and areas throughout South Carolina and western North Carolina. Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Mental Health Technician who will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment, crisis intervention, and assisting with activities of daily living. The technician must be flexible to work with varied populations including males and females, adolescents and adults, as well as dually diagnosed adults.

Summary of Job Duties

To provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, ensuring their safety and supporting the therapeutic milieu.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conduct 15-minute rounds on patients as per policy.
  • Assist patients prone to falls during walking or sitting.
  • Act as Safety Champion.
  • Participate in restraint and seclusion procedures when required.
  • Push patients in wheelchairs as needed.
  • Support facility service excellence standards.
  • Comply with safety, infection control, and security protocols.
  • Maintain good attendance, punctuality, and productivity.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and therapeutic environment.
  • Assist with patient luggage and emergency evacuations.
  • Provide personal care such as baths and changing briefs when necessary.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch areas and other spaces as required.
  • Support treatment plans by monitoring progress, communicating with team and family, facilitating groups, and supervising patient activities.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions.
  • Document patient, program, and department activities accurately.
  • Participate in treatment planning and discharge planning, offering insights based on observations.
  • Assist with patient orientation and general nursing care as supervised by the nurse in charge.
  • Perform clerical and administrative tasks to support patient care and operations.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Adhere to ethical standards of CCBH.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Entry-Level Qualifications:

High school reading and writing skills, good communication, confidentiality, and customer service skills. Certification as a nursing assistant or patient care technician, or familiarity with medical/psychological terminology is preferred. Skills in human behavior, psychology, prioritization, and time management are beneficial. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to learn these skills if not already possessed.

Telephone, shower/bath, AV equipment, EKG, thermometer, refrigerator, radio, blood pressure cuff, vitals machine, housekeeping supplies, copy machine, restraints, first aid items, shredder.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to handle volatile situations, work amidst distractions, move between tasks, and be flexible. Capable of assisting with patient restraints, exerting up to 100 pounds of force, and performing various physical movements. Good visual and auditory acuity required for observation and communication. Work environment is primarily indoor with minimal environmental hazards.
