Job summary

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center provides quality mental health care for adolescents aged 11–17 facing behavioral and emotional challenges. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) delivers direct patient care, supervising patients in treatment, recreation, and education, while monitoring safety and progress in a residential setting.

The role offers a sign-on bonus and a starting hourly wage, with a schedule of 7:00AM–3:30PM and every other weekend.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or related field preferred (increase in wages).
• Six months’ experience in residential psychiatry or similar childcare exposure preferred.
• Must pass Level 2 Background Screening and Pre-employment Drug Test.

Responsibilities

• Supervise patients in treatment, recreation, education, and daily living activities to assess social and clinical status.
• Prioritize patient safety and employ least restrictive interventions.
• Ensure adherence to facility policies to avoid seclusion and restraint whenever possible.

The dedicated professionals at Suncoast Behavioral Health Center provide quality mental health treatment for children. The program establishes healthy behaviors and prepares children to transition back home.

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) performs direct patient care duties in a residential behavioral health setting. The Mental Health Technician is responsible for supervising the patient in treatment, recreation, educational settings, and other activities of daily living to assess changes in their social behaviors and clinical status. MHT’s have the primary responsibility for ensuring the patient’s safety in the facility. MHT's are responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per facility policy and successfully avoid seclusion and restraint whenever possible.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• High school graduate or GED required.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or related field preferred (increase in wages).
• Preferred six month's experience in residential psychiatry or other childcare facility/agency experience in comparable position.
• Must be able to pass a Level 2 Background Screening to work in Healthcare (AHCA) and Pre-employment Drug Test.

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic distance with clients; maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and following discharge.
• Must be able to read, understand, and follow: policies, procedures, and written treatment plans.

• May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
• Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of Handle with Care prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 7 days of employment.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

• Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
