Qualifications

• 18 years of age and six months’ experience with mental health patients (or HS diploma with two years of continued education toward an associate degree in psychology or related field)
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification within three months of hire
• Handle with Care Basic Certification within two months of hire and annual recertification
• Hard cuff and Soft Limb restraints certifications within two months of hire and annual recertification

Responsibilities

• Performs selected patient care activities under supervision of a registered nurse
• Contributes to multidisciplinary treatment plans
• Maintains clean and comfortable environment for patients
• Identifies and helps stabilize potential crises and seeks assistance as needed
• Assists with orientation of patients and families to the unit
• Participates in planning and facilitating therapeutic activities
• Records vital signs and documents accurately in patient records
• Assists in patient transfers, seclusion or restraints when indicated
• Supports group activities under RN supervision
• Reports pertinent observations to the treatment team
