The Mental Health Tech (MHT) participates in delivering patient care to psychiatric patients in crisis under RN supervision. Responsibilities include providing, monitoring, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment, specimen collection, activities of daily living, behavioral management, crisis intervention, and implementing patient treatment as per physician orders, RN directives, policies, and standards of care. The MHT offers clinical support in a caring, safe, and efficient manner, collaborating with patients and families as appropriate.
Job Summary
• Monitor and maintain the therapeutic environment • Participate in crisis management and stabilization • Transport patients, stay with them during tests, and accompany them to discharge • Assist with physical examinations, safety searches, transferring, discharging, and documenting seclusion/restraint use • Perform vital signs, oxygen saturation monitoring, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing • Support other healthcare team members and perform delegated nursing activities • Obtain and maintain crisis intervention certification as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Assist with EKGs, Phlebotomy, Glucose Monitoring, and Vital Signs as trained • Use therapeutic communication techniques • Communicate effectively under stress or emergency • Establish and maintain effective relationships • Work well in a team, lead, mentor, and respond professionally in emotionally charged situations • Provide excellent customer service and build trust through effective communication
Education: • High School diploma or GED (required) • College coursework in social and health sciences (preferred)
Experience: • At least 1 year of inpatient or emergency psychiatry or related experience (preferred) • Completion of recognized Clinical Assistant, Medical Assistant, or EMT training (preferred) • Nursing students who completed Fundamentals of Nursing (preferred)
Licensure: • Valid driver’s license for Transport roles (required)
Certification: • CPR certification from the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers (required)
