Responsibilities

Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health Center, a subsidiary of UHS, is a private 182‑bed hospital that specializes in drug addiction, mental health issues, and concurrent disorders for adults and adolescents. Our staff provides compassionate, comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s needs.

We offer a continuum of mental health and addiction services in a confidential, caring environment that promotes crisis resolution, personal growth and problem‑solving. The goal is to help patients achieve good health and long‑term sobriety.

Fort Lauderdale BHC is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Mental Health Technician (MHT)

Full time, 3–12 hour shifts weekly: 7 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. or 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience: At least one year of previous experience in a healthcare setting and/or behavioral health experience strongly preferred.

• Current BLS certification required.
• Must complete and maintain training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) – aggression management, crisis intervention, and restraint training. Training may be obtained during new‑hire orientation.
• Must pass competency exams within 90 days of hire.
• Must be able to prioritize workload, effectively multi‑task, and problem‑solve in a fast‑paced environment. Excellent listening, communication, prioritization and follow‑through skills with a strong focus on high‑quality patient care.

Physical Requirements

Move efficiently to meet patient needs and provide timely intervention. Able to sit or walk during shift. Able to hear spoken words, respond to signals, alarms, codes, or other displays. Recognize vocal intonation signaling changes in acuity. Able to bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 lbs. Must write legibly to accurately convey information, read instructions, complete documentation and reports. Must be able to restrain, as part of a team, an aggressive patient safely and therapeutically. Able to lift, position, or move patients.
