Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System is seeking a Safety Attendant to work with nurses to monitor patient safety, provide stimuli, and support a calm, therapeutic environment. This role emphasizes compassionate communication with patients, families and staff.

Qualifications

• : Strong observation and interpersonal communication skills; ability to calmly communicate with patients and families.
• : BLS certification (American Heart Association) required.

Responsibilities

• Sit with assigned patients to assist with safety and provide stimuli.
• Communicate with the patient’s care team and deliver customer service to patients, staff and visitors.
• Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
• Report escalating behavior to nursing staff and call for assistance as needed.
• Participate in educational and Performance Improvement activities.

Facility Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Location Fayetteville, North Carolina Department Safety Attendants Job Family Nursing Support Work Shift Summary Responsible for sitting with assigned patients and works with the nurse to assist with patient safety as well as offer stimuli to the patient. Responsible for communicating with every person involved in the patient’s care. Responsible for delivering customer service to the patient, staff and visitors. Utilizes crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.

Major Job Functions

• Cares for the patient in a manner that promotes safety, protects rights and preserves dignity that is conducive to a therapeutic environment
• Responds to needs of patients with direct assistance when able or by reporting patient needs to the appropriate person
• Assists in maintaining patient safety to include the proper use of equipment and supplies which may include restraints
• Participates in educational and Performance Improvement activities
• Promotes the patient’s right to privacy
• Provides emotional support as appropriate
• Alerts nursing staff regarding escalating behavior that requires intervention and calls for assistance as needed

• Education and Formal Training: High school diploma or equivalent required Psychology/social work training preferred

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Skills and knowledge to conduct safe individual activities with the patients Strong observation and intervention skills with the patients and family members Proficient with interpersonal communication skills Possess verbal communication skills to allow for calm communication with patient and the patient’s family members
• Physical Requirements: Work involves a variety of activities including walking, standing and sitting Ability to turn and lift patients Ability to communicate and visually observe the patient required
• Required Licenses and Certifications: BLS - American Heart Association
