Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Behavioral Health Counselor to provide counseling to patients withdrawing from alcohol and/or other drugs in inpatient or outpatient settings at BMC Brighton. You will assess, plan, and deliver individual and group sessions, educate on relapse prevention, and coordinate care with the care team.

Responsibilities include supervising student interns, liaising with physicians and staff, and ensuring comprehensive aftercare planning.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in counseling psychology, social work, behavioral science, or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of training and/or clinical experience in substance use and/or mental health counseling.
• De-escalation certification within 1 month of hire.
• BLS certification within 1 month of hire or to be obtained.

• Involve family members or significant others in the recovery process, including support, living arrangements, aftercare, and outpatient therapy programs.
• Encourage patients in decisions about aftercare treatment and provide information on available resources.
• Liaise with MDs, nurses, and other healthcare personnel and referral sources to address both physical and psychological aspects of care.
• Supervise assigned student interns in their clinical practice.

Job Overview

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Specialized knowledge, training or experience in cognitive-behavioral therapy.
• Experience with dual diagnosis.
• Massachusetts LMCH/LICSW, CADAC/CAS/CAC/CRC, or Massachusetts Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor credentials.

Certifications & Licenses

• De-escalation certification within 1 month of hire.
• BLS required or to be obtained within 1 month of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of dual diagnosis.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate with referring agencies such as EAP professionals, private practitioners, probation officers, housing staff, primary care doctors, and community health agencies.
• Familiarity with the Patient's Bill of Rights.
• Autonomous clinical assessment and intervention capability.

Compensation

Salary range: $51,500 – $75,000, based on job qualifications, education, experience, and certifications.
