Job description

Position: Teacher / Special Education Teacher

Position Overview: The Mental and Behavioral Health Specialist provides support and guidance to students facing academic and social-emotional challenges. This role requires a school psychologist, counselor, or social worker license, preferably with Clinical Social Work (LICSW) certification. The specialist focuses on delivering special education services, social-emotional learning (SEL), mental health interventions, and conducting evaluations for child find initiatives.

Essential Functions:
  1. Provide direct social-emotional skill services to special education students, including evaluations and assessments for suspected disabilities.
  2. Utilize evidence-based practices in pre-referral interventions, consultations, and evaluations.
  3. Design, implement, and evaluate early interventions, including FBA and PBSP.
  4. Collaborate with school psychologists to conduct evaluations for special education eligibility.
  5. Work with community mental health providers and case managers to support students and families, facilitating connections to resources.
  6. Collaborate with school social workers to deliver services and supports.
  7. Provide culturally responsive social-emotional interventions, support staff, and interpret behaviors.
  8. Assist in crisis response planning, including risk assessments.
  9. Develop and implement best practices tailored to student needs.
  10. Support data collection and analysis for decision-making.
  11. Participate as an IEP team designee, facilitating meetings and managing paperwork.
  12. Refer cases of suspected abuse to Child Protective Services.
  13. Uphold district mission, professional ethics, and legal requirements.

Physical and Working Environment:

Work is in a school environment, requiring sitting, lifting up to 20 pounds, reading printed and digital materials, and communicating effectively.

Hours: 0.7 FTE, 185 days, HEA Union Contract. Salary range: BA: $45,627-$65,024; MA: $50,702-$82,203. Benefits info and contracts available here.
