Job Overview

The Men’s Designer is responsible for designing compelling,
differentiated products across assigned Men’s categories at UNRL. This role
translates product strategy, customer needs, and product briefs into thoughtful
designs that deliver against the UNRL brand while balancing creativity,
performance, functionality, and commercial objectives. Reporting to the Head of
Design, the Men’s Designer partners with Line Management and Product
Development throughout the product creation process, from initial concept
through sampling and commercialization. This role is responsible for
translating what we want to build and why into how the product looks, feels,
and functions.

Responsibilities
  • Own product design for assigned Men’s categories from initial concept through commercialization.
  • Translate Men’s line strategy, customer insights, and product briefs into compelling product designs.
  • Develop product concepts, silhouettes, proportions, construction details, and design features that deliver against the intended consumer need.
  • Create clear and accurate CADs, sketches, and technical design communication to support product development.
  • Select and recommend fabrics, materials, trims, finishes, and other components appropriate for product performance and design intent.
  • Apply established seasonal color direction across assigned products and categories, ensuring alignment with the broader Men’s assortment.
  • Develop prints, graphics, patterns, and other visual elements where required.
  • Partner closely with Product Development throughout prototyping, sampling, fittings, and commercialization to ensure design intent is maintained.
  • Review samples and provide clear, actionable design feedback throughout the development process.
  • Maintain design consistency across assigned categories and the broader Men’s assortment.
  • Incorporate feedback from the Design Director, Line Manager, Development, and cross-functional partners while protecting the core design intent.
  • Identify opportunities for product innovation through materials, construction, features, silhouettes, and design details.
  • Maintain awareness of consumer, competitive, cultural, and design trends while creating products that feel distinctly UNRL.
  • Deliver design work against established product creation and GTM milestones.
What Good Looks Like

Success in this role means creating Men’s product that is
distinctive, cohesive, customer-relevant, and unmistakably UNRL.

A successful designer will:

  • Translate strong product briefs into compelling and commercially relevant designs.
  • Create product with a clear purpose and thoughtful attention to silhouette, materials, functionality, and details.
  • Consistently execute against UNRL’s established design language and seasonal creative direction.
  • Create cohesion across products and categories rather than designing individual products in isolation.
  • Bring new ideas and meaningful innovation to the assortment.
  • Produce clear, accurate design communication that enables efficient development.
  • Partner effectively with Development to solve problems without unnecessarily compromising design intent.
  • Respond constructively to feedback while maintaining a strong creative point of view.
  • Deliver high-quality design work on time and against seasonal milestones.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of progressive apparel design experience, ideally within Men’s apparel.
  • Strong portfolio, demonstrating creative ability, product thinking, and apparel design expertise.
  • Experience translating product briefs and consumer needs into commercially relevant designs.
  • Strong understanding of apparel construction, materials, silhouettes, fit, and product details.
  • Experience creating CADs, sketches, technical drawings, and other design communication.
  • Experience selecting fabrics, trims, and materials appropriate to product design and function.
  • Experience partnering with Product Development through sampling and commercialization.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive and incorporate feedback while maintaining a strong design point of view.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
Technical Expertise
  • Strong apparel design and creative concept development skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other relevant apparel design tools.
  • Strong CAD and technical design communication capabilities.
  • Understanding of apparel construction, fit, materials, trims, finishes, and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of color theory and the ability to apply established color strategies effectively.
  • Ability to develop prints and graphics where required.
  • Understanding of the end-to-end apparel product creation process.
  • Ability to evaluate samples and clearly communicate design revisions.
  • Familiarity with PLM and product creation systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Experience within premium apparel, golf, performance, athleisure, or lifestyle brands.
  • Experience designing performance and technically constructed apparel.
  • Experience designing across multiple Men’s apparel categories and use cases.
  • Experience with both knit and woven products.
  • Experience working within a fast-growing or entrepreneurial consumer brand.
  • Strong understanding of the premium Men’s apparel consumer and competitive landscape.
Our Leadership Principles
  • Lead with ownership, accountability, and integrity.
  • Put the customer and exceptional product at the center of design decisions.
  • Bring creativity, curiosity, and a strong product point of view.
  • Design for the assortment and brand, not just the individual product.
  • Balance creativity with consumer, commercial, and operational realities.
  • Seek feedback and use it to make the product better.
  • Collaborate across functions to solve problems and deliver exceptional products.
  • Protect design intent while remaining flexible in how we get there.
  • Challenge the status quo and continuously look for ways to improve the product.
  • Maintain an uncompromising standard for design quality and brand excellence.
