Job summary

The Shed in New York is seeking a Membership Manager to lead a forward-thinking, 21st-century membership program. The role oversees planning, execution, and revenue growth, acquiring and retaining members through on-site, mail, email, and social campaigns while collaborating with marketing, events, and donor relations to align with the artistic mission.

The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of membership experience, deep Tessitura knowledge, and a proven track record in direct response

Qualifications

• Six+ years of membership management experience.
• Deep understanding of membership lifecycle and renewal processes.
• Experience in direct response strategies, including digital/mobile and direct mail.
• Collaborative approach across departments and teams.
• Knowledge of database best practices; Tessitura preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
• Commitment to fundraising ethics and donor confidentiality.
• Ability to work with a growing, energetic team.
• Flexible hours for events and activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the vision and day-to-day operations of a modern membership program.
• Plan and track all membership efforts, including events, campaigns, and acquisitions.
• Develop member engagement through communications, events, and experiences.
• Supervise the Membership Assistant and maintain a customer-focused culture.
• Coordinate with Marketing to tailor messaging for member segments.
• Meet annual revenue goals and drive growth year over year.
• Liaise with the membership consultant and collaborate with Visitor Experience for on-site efforts.
• Oversee membership records, gifts, acknowledgments, and Tessitura data handling.
• Maintain campaign and source code structures in Tessitura and provide analytics.
• Produce regular reports and maintain a campaigning calendar.
• Research member base demographics and wealth indicators to drive strategy.
• Develop a robust communications schedule for members across departments.
• Participate in prospect management meetings and donor strategy sessions.
• Collaborate on engaging member events to connect donors with The Shed’s mission.
• Attend cultivation events, member evenings, tours, and behind-the-scenes events.
• Perform special projects as assigned.
