Job summary

Geneva Lakes Family YMCA is seeking a Membership Associate to deliver exceptional service at our front desk and member services. This part-time role focuses on creating welcoming experiences, registering participants, answering questions, and balancing cash during shifts.

You’ll support daily operations, assist with events, and ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met. If you enjoy hospitality, fitness and community engagement, this role offers a dynamic start.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 21 years old.
  • 1–2 years of customer service experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent member service and information about programs and fees.
  • Register participants for YMCA classes and programs; check in members.
  • Answer phones and handle clerical tasks; light cleaning duties.
  • Ensure smooth shift management and guest services delivery.
  • Plan and execute events within the YMCA environment.
  • Process cash transactions accurately during shift changes.

Description

Join our dynamic team as a Membership Associate, where you'll lead the charge in creating memorable, engaging, and seamless experiences for our members. This energetic role combines customer service excellence, and event management to foster a vibrant community atmosphere. As a key driver of guest satisfaction and operational success, you'll oversee daily operations, and ensure that every member interaction reflects our commitment to exceptional service. If you thrive in lively environments like social clubs, resorts, or hospitality settings and possess a passion for managing events, this position offers an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact in fitness programming and hospitality. Provides new and existing customers with excellent customer service and deliver accurate and current information about YMCA programs, sports and events. Must be outgoing, and become very knowledgeable about and remain up-to-date on all YMCA programs. Must be knowledgeable about fees, schedules, facility amenities, and the Y’s unique role in the community. Serve as a friendly, positive and enthusiastic advocate for the Y and build relationships with members and program participants. As prospective members and program participants inquire about the YMCA activities, this is the first and sometimes only person they will have contact with. This is a very important position in our organization and has direct bearing on customer satisfaction and retention. This position is 4:30-8am, Wednesday and Fridays with optional extra hours as a sub for other shifts.

Requirements
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people, accurately at a fast pace and to simultaneously manage multiple priorities. Greet members and guests in a friendly, pleasant manner.
  • Provide initial contact and give correct information regarding programs and fees, or refer them to the proper person. Register participants for YMCA classes and programs. Check in members.
  • Answer phones, take messages and be sure they get to the right person. Some filing and miscellaneous clerical work. Light cleaning responsibilities.
  • Keep apprised of YMCA classes, fees, and changes in programs. Monitor the YMCA facilities and handle all questions and concerns in a courteous, professional manner. Take out garbage and recyclables, sweep/shovel the sidewalks and pick up debris as needed. Secure the building before you leave, including checking rooms, saunas, and locking doors.
  • Ensuring smooth shift management and guest services delivery.
  • Manage event planning and execution within the YMCA environment, coordinating logistics to deliver memorable experiences for members.
  • Oversee guest interactions to ensure exceptional service, addressing concerns promptly and professionally. Handle cash transactions accurately during shift changes, including cash handling procedures and balancing registers.
  • Prepare detailed reports on membership activities, event outcomes, and operational performance to inform management decisions.
  • Maintain a lively yet organized environment by ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 21 years old
  • Key characteristics include being a fast learner, quickly adaptable, energetic, approachable, self-motivated, dependable, and friendly.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential. Be a good problem solver, have the ability to follow directions, and find answers.
  • Must have a commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA and uphold its values and ethics. Must be an articulate spokesperson on behalf of the YMCA.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of Child Abuse Prevention; Adult and Pediatric CPR, First Aid & AED.
  • 1-2 years customer service experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable computer skills.

  • Familiarity with shift management duties such as cash handling, report writing, and managing guest services.
