ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

The mission of CuriOdyssey is to inspire a love for science and curiosity about the world in young learners. Located in Coyote Point Park in San Mateo County, CuriOdyssey has undergone a major reinvention and full strategic planning process that has transformed the organization into a vital, kid-centric interactive science center and accredited California native animal wildlife zoo that provides up-close and personal experiences with the natural world. The organization is comprised of a strategic and engaged Board of Trustees, visionary executive leadership, and a talented, energetic and entrepreneurial staff.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Membership Assistant is a full-time, non-exempt position in the Membership Department. This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of our membership program, strategy, and logistics, including customer service, communications, event planning, and report/database creation and maintenance. This role involves attention to detail, creativity, decision-making, and the ability to make recommendations to improve member acquisition, retention, and engagement, drive revenue growth, and enhance overall organizational strategy. Reporting to the Marketing Systems and Membership Manager, the Membership Assistant plays a key role in managing the functions and operations of our membership department. The Membership department reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications, so some general and ad hoc marketing or communications work is included in this role.

COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE
  • $28.00 per hour, eligible for overtime
  • Must be willing to work occasional holidays, evenings, and weekends with advance notice to support marketing and membership events and campaigns.
  • Hybrid, 5-day workweek, with 1 work-from-home day per week; workweek flexible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the primary individual responsible for fulfilling operational membership tasks and for resolving issues related to membership sales. This includes, but is not limited to: selling memberships in-person and via phone and mail, processing online membership sales, distribution of all membership sale communications, and processing Museums for All membership applications.
  • Responding to and fulfilling member inquiries, requests, issues in a timely and friendly manner, including answering questions from both staff and visitors about our membership program.
  • Writing, designing, and sending member communications across channels, including our welcome email, member renewal email, autorenewal notice, and various ad hoc member emails.
  • Helping organize and support our bimonthly Member Morning events.
  • Train and oversee Visitor Engagement (VE) staff on membership processes, including sales techniques and system navigation, ensuring alignment with membership growth strategies.
  • Support the execution of Marketing campaigns and strategy as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong decision-making, strategy implementation abilities, and leadership skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a portfolio of marketing copy that drives proven results across campaign channels
  • Ability to manage and apply voice, tone, and style guides and visual templates
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to use data to measure results
  • Proactive, strategic thinker and creative problem-solver
  • Well organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Responds quickly to time-sensitive queries and successfully conducts business in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills; desire and ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with staff, vendors and outside partners. Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Management and growth of a micro-influencer social media account (5-10K followers)
  • Web CMS systems (WordPress) current knowledge and experience
  • Photo-editing software, graphic design software (Photoshop, Canva, Figma, other) current knowledge and experience
  • Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Workspace proficiency. Familiarity with Asana is a plus.
  • Must work in-office at least 4 days per week. Able and willing to work occasional early/late/weekend hours as needed
SKILLS AND JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Desire to work in a mission-oriented, nonprofit small museum and zoo
  • At least one year experience with membership and ticketing systems (CRM experience required; proficiency in Altru preferred.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • A positive, solution-oriented approach to a shifting workload.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong writer and editor.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the United States.
  • Live Scan background check clearance, paid for by CuriOdyssey.
  • Work well as part of the team with excellent customer service interactions. At least one year of retail or customer service experience is preferred. Ability to serve as the initial point of escalation for member concerns and effectively de-escalate and resolve the situation.

  • Strong work ethic, flexibility and willingness to get the job done.
  • Well organized, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Responds quickly to time-sensitive queries and successfully conducts business in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; desire and ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with staff, vendors and outside partners.
  • Proficiency with Google Sheets, Microsoft Word, Mailchimp, Canva and a willingness to adapt to and learn new technologies. Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS preferred, knowledge of Google Apps Script a bonus.
  • Ability to prepare reports. Analytical skills preferred.
