Generative Group is hiring a founding-level Platform Engineer in New York to build the company’s core AI infrastructure, data pipelines, and agent orchestration that power experimental AI agents in production.
You will work directly with the CTO on architecture decisions, aiming for scalable, observable, and auditable systems with modern DevOps practices and strong governance.
Member of Technical Staff – Founding Platform Engineer
Early-stage AI infrastructure startup
Location: New York (on-site)
Salary: $250K–$400K+ (senior) / $200K–$300K (junior)
Equity: Meaningful early-stage equity
Benefits: Full health, dental and vision cover, premium primary-care membership, daily lunch and gym membership
About the company
AI agents are now capable of carrying out significant work on their own for long stretches, but most organisations don't yet have the tooling to trust them with it. Our client is building that missing layer: controlled delegation, real-time oversight, and a single shared record of what agents learn and do.
The founding team previously built and ran an autonomous trading business deploying large numbers of probabilistic models on live capital, so operating autonomous systems under real stakes is familiar ground. The wider team brings experience from AI research labs, quantitative finance, big tech and prior startups.
The role
This is a founding-level platform engineering hire working directly with the CTO on the company's core infrastructure. You'll build the data pipelines, agent orchestration, APIs and reliability foundations the whole product depends on.
The ideal candidate is commercially aware and product-minded, ideally from a leading AI lab or quant firm where production standards are exceptionally high, and is excited to build from a blank slate.
What you'll do
Own the core platform (compute, storage, APIs, pipelines), making early architectural calls with long-lasting impact
Build orchestration, observability and governance tooling so AI agents can run dependably in production
Design scalable data pipelines where correctness and auditability are non-negotiable
Put in place monitoring, alerting and incident-response practices
Define the engineering quality bar and steer key technical decisions
What we’re looking for
Strong background in distributed systems, backend infrastructure or data engineering
Hands-on experience running data-heavy production systems (pipelines, streaming, warehouses, orchestration, model serving)
Working knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure, including LLM systems and agent frameworks
Comfortable with AWS/GCP, modern DevOps and large-scale enterprise integrations
Experience at an AI lab, top quant firm or high-rigour infrastructure team is a big plus
Sound judgement on build vs buy, and on when to keep things simple
