Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a supervisor or relief supervisor.

  • Document accidents, injuries, and equipment damage; maintain logs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and participate in promotions/corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.

Job description

Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Fort Knox prioritizes being a strong contributor to the State and local communities, and since 2001, has helped support more than 300 community partners and has contributed more than US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust.

Job Description

Provide complex technical support to Mobile Maintenance. To follow established policies, practices, and procedures when completing work assignments. Supervise and instruct Mobile Maintenance shift crew activities to maximize Mobile Maintenance efficiencies in a safety-oriented workplace and meet production goals.

Job Responsibilities
  • Direct the activities of mechanics.
  • Work with Mobile Maintenance General Foreman and Maintenance Planner to plan and schedule daily work.
  • Assist the planner in determining technical specifications of equipment.
  • Interface with various equipment manufacturers’ representatives.
  • Work closely with Mine Supervisor to help meet production goals.
  • Monitor work areas on an ongoing basis to assure safe and cost efficient maintenance goals.
  • Investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.
  • Report processing: daily time cards, vacation schedules, injury reports, accident reports, and disciplinary action.
  • Maintenance of a daily log of work assignments and accomplishments.
  • Prevent needless expenditures and lost production by minimizing equipment downtime through properly executed preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Review documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
    Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Responsible for conducting and doing performance evaluations, recommending promotions, and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
    Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
    Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
    Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
    Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
    Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
    Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.

Experience

  • Three years’ experience in repairing and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience as a supervisor or relief supervisor.
Skills
  • Experience with computerized maintenance systems.
  • Master mechanic's troubleshooting ability.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel, gasoline, electronic, hydraulic, and welding equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of the maintenance requirements and procedures for heavy mobile equipment is necessary.
  • Must be production orientated.
  • Good working knowledge and skill with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, with others in a team environment, and also as a member of the management team.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.
Reporting Relationships

This role reports to the MEM General Supervisor.
