Job summary

Nucor is hiring a Melt and Cast Process Engineer to optimize EAF/LMF operations and improve productivity, energy efficiency, and steel quality through data-driven methods. You will work with operations, maintenance, and engineering to implement best practices and drive continuous improvement.

Applicants should have a minimum of four years in melt shop steelmaking, with a focus on process control, troubleshooting, and safe operations; advanced degrees are preferred for future growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of four years of hands-on experience supporting EAF and/or LMF steelmaking operations.
• Ability to work safely and effectively with operators, maintenance, quality, and engineering.
• Willingness to provide daily floor support, including response to urgent production issues.

Responsibilities

• Providing day-to-day technical support for melt shop Electric Arc Furnace and Ladle Metallurgical Furnace operations.
• Developing and implementing EAF operating practices, including optimization of power input, burner profiles, oxygen practices, and furnace chemistry
• Developing and implementing LMF clean steel practices, including alloy additions and recovery, slag control and desulfurization, argon stirring and inclusion control.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to steelmaking processes.
• Monitoring and improving process consistency, steel cleanliness, and product quality.
• Partnering with operations, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to solve technical and production challenges.
