Job summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking an Analytical Characterization Intern in Raritan, NJ to support wet chemistry and chromatography for new product development and lifecycle management. You will work under lab scientists, manage samples, and contribute to cross‑functional project teams.

The role requires you to be an undergraduate freshman or sophomore pursuing Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, maintain a minimum GPA, and be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

  • Minimum GPA 3.0; strong chemistry fundamentals and lab skills.

  • Good communication and writing abilities; bench work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists to perform wet chemistry and chromatography for new product development.
  • Manage samples, data collection, notebooks, and data reporting.
  • Support New Product Development projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Develop analytical methods and deliver results to project teams.
  • Maintain careful documentation and comply with lab safety and regulatory guidelines.

This internship position will join the Analytical Characterization group within the company’s research and development organization. You will perform hands‑on experiments in the area of wet chemistry, and chromatography, under the supervision of lab scientists and collaborate with other analytical associates. You will perform sample management and data curator under the supervision of lab managers. You will also participate in New Product Development project teams, interact with cross‑functional R&D development associates, develop analytical methods, and deliver results to support product development.

You will be responsible:

The main responsibility for this position is to work with scientists to perform wet chemistry, and chromatography in support of new product development and life‑cycle management.

  • The daily activities focus on sample preparation, testing, data collection, notebook recording, data analysis, and data reporting.
  • Login and manage samples submitted from the stability group.
  • Practices safe and environmentally sound laboratory techniques adhering to regulatory, local government, and safety guidelines.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, through verbal and written reports.
  • Maintain good documentation and lab notebook per company procedures, and FDA/ICH guidelines.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Completion of Undergraduate Freshman year at an accredited University is required.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, which is reflective of all college coursework.
  • Must not be a Senior graduating prior to the program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date if applied and hired).
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry lab skills is required.
  • Must be able to work permanently in the US and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., F1, H1-B status)
  • Available to work full‑time (40 hours/week) with reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Bench work experience in chemistry is preferred.

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate’s program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
