Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Summer 2027 Intern for the Wound Closure & Healing R&D Organization in Raritan, NJ. The intern will support development of wound closure and healing products and gain experience across sutures, hemostasis, surgical devices, and related technologies.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited college/university during the internship.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Freshman year or above preferred.
  • GPA of 3.2 or higher strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership or campus/community involvement desired.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and strong communication skills.
  • Hands-on SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to provide own transportation to the Raritan, NJ site.

Job Description:

The Wound Closure & Healing R&D Organization in Raritan, NJ, is recruiting for a Summer 2027 Intern for assistance in developing Wound Closure & Healing products. Wound Closure & Healing is part of the Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery organization.

The J&J MedTech Organization, based in Raritan, New Jersey, was founded more than 80 years ago as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, helping to transform the safety and effectiveness of open surgery. The MedTech Organization offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies including- sutures, hemostasis products, surgical staplers, trocos, and energy devices - that are used in a wide variety of minimally-invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, hernias, oncology, and obesity.

The position in question will require:

  • Hands-on laboratory work in our engineering labs
  • Performing engineering studies and developing fixtures
  • Generating models and drawings in SolidWorks
  • Fabricating prototypes and evaluating them via surgeon Voice-of-Customer (VOC) events
  • Good documentation practices, including writing test protocols, generating final reports, and documenting meeting minutes
  • Collaborating with engineers and outside suppliers to support project-related activities

Target Hire Date : 05/03/2027 Target End Date : 08/27/2027

Qualifications:
  • Be enrolled (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited college/university during the internship.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Only students who have completed their freshman year or above will be considered.
  • a GPA of 3.2 or higher is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities is desired.
  • A high level of organization and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Be comfortable working independently, as well as on a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Power Point, and have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on skills and experience with SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.
  • Ability to provide their own transportation to the Raritan, NJ site.
Candidate Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Be authorized to work in the US without current or future sponsorship requirements.
  • Remain actively enrolled in their academic program throughout the entire internship period.
  • Be available to work 40 hours per week during the internship.
  • Should have a minimum GPA of 3.2

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$23.50/hr to $52.50/hr

Additional Description for Pay Transparency: The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience.

  • Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan.
  • Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year.
  • Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension).
