Job summary

Stryker is seeking an Intellectual Property Manager in Cary, IL to oversee the full patent lifecycle, collaborate with R&D and IP counsel, and drive filing decisions across US and international jurisdictions. The role partners with multiple sites globally to optimize IP strategy and portfolio performance.

You will coordinate with outside counsel, conduct competitive analyses, and report portfolio status to IP leadership while improving processes and systems within the IP function.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field and IP discipline.
• 8+ years in engineering/IP, including patent management and prosecution.
• Experience with invention disclosures, patentability assessments, and prior-art analysis.
• Collaboration with R&D, patent counsel, and external partners on filings.
• Ability to manage multiple IP matters and portfolios simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full patent lifecycle from intake to maintenance decisions.
• Lead invention review boards and guide filing decisions with IP counsel.
• Develop patent portfolio strategies aligned with product development.
• Coordinate with outside counsel for US/international filings and office actions.
• Conduct patentability, prior-art, and competitive landscape analyses.
• Evaluate commercialization plans and inform international filing decisions.
• Coordinate IP risk assessments including FTO for new launches and acquisitions.
• Improve IP processes, portfolio metrics, and leadership reporting.
