Job summary

Stryker is seeking an Intellectual Property Manager for its Medical Division—Sage. The role covers full patent lifecycle management, cooperation with R&D, and collaboration with IP counsel to drive strategy and governance across a global portfolio.

Based in a hybrid arrangement (Cary, Illinois preferred; onsite 2–3 days/week), the role requires leadership in invention review, filing decisions, and portfolio budgeting to support product development and acquisitions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in engineering, IP, patent management, or related functions.
• Experience managing IP matters and portfolios, including invention disclosures, patentability assessments, and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full patent lifecycle from intake to maintenance decisions.
• Lead invention review boards and guide filing decisions with R&D and IP counsel.
• Develop patent portfolio strategies aligned with product development and business priorities.
• Coordinate with outside counsel for US and international filings and responses to actions.
• Conduct patentability, prior-art, and landscape analyses to support strategy.
• Evaluate invention commercialization plans and inform filing/maintenance decisions.
• Coordinate IP risk assessments including freedom-to-operate analyses for launches.
• Improve IP processes, systems, and portfolio metrics for leadership reporting.
