Job summary

The University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in Palliative Care within the Clinical Research Division and UW department.

The successful candidate will contribute to outstanding clinical care, teaching, and research in palliative care, with outpatient and/or inpatient responsibilities and a path toward externally funded research, depending on interests and institutional needs.

Qualifications

• Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent), board certification (or be board eligible for current palliative care fellows) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (or foreign equivalent), and must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington.
• While individuals with primary training in internal medicine are preferred, applicants with other training may apply (e.g. family medicine, anesthesiology, rehabilitation, psychiatry, surgery, etc.).
• The ideal candidate will have a record of and primary interest in palliative care research, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, grants and/or clinical trial experience, as well as experience teaching palliative care learners.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to outpatient and inpatient palliative care service delivery according to the candidate's interests and institutional need.
• Engage in teaching fellows, provide informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to learners, providers and the medical community.
• Develop and participate in clinical research activities, including grants and/or clinical trials.

TheFredHutchinsonCancerCenter(FredHutch)andtheUniversityofWashington(UW)arejointlyrecruitinga full-time faculty member at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), intheClinicalResearchDivisionofthe FredHutchand appointment in one of the following UW departments, based upon the board certification(s) of successful applicant: Medicine, Family Medicine, Anesthesiology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, or Surgery. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34 . University of Washington assistant professors WOT are eligible formulti-year appointments andassociateprofessorsWOT holdindefiniteappointments thatbothalignwitha 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent ofone month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The selected individual is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developingexcellenceinclinicalresearchinpalliativecare.The successful candidate will have clinical responsibilities on the outpatient and/or inpatient palliative care servicebasedonthecandidate’sinterests(andinstitutionalneed).Teaching responsibilities will include clinical oversite of fellows, informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to learners, providers and the general medical community. The balance of time will be spent in research-related activities. At Fred Hutch, Clinician Scholars are expected to obtain externally funded research (e.g. grants, clinical trials).
