Job summary

Capistrano Senior Living in San Juan Capistrano, CA is seeking a positive Medication Technician to administer medications and support residents with daily care.

The role requires completion of a Med Tech training program, six months in long-term care, a high school diploma, and English proficiency; CPR certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Med Tech training program completed.
• Minimum six months’ experience in long-term care, home care, or related field.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• CPR certification is required or obtainable.
• Must speak, read, and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Read and implement care/ADLs according to resident service plan within the scope of certification or licensure.
• Respond to resident needs, pendant calls, and other community alarms promptly.
• Demonstrate empathy and develop caring rapport with residents.
• Communicate clearly, professionally, and timely.
• Report changes of condition to nursing in a timely and effective manner.
• Respect resident rights and promote independence regardless of background or disease.
• Identify psychosocial needs of residents and address behavioral needs.
• Track medication orders and prepare medications for distribution up to 24 hours in advance.
• Participate in narcotic counts and report discrepancies to supervisors.
• Assist caregivers in job duties and take on caregiver activities when needed.
• Provide mealtime assistance with selecting meals, serving, and clearing trays.
• Assist transportation of residents and ensure safe lifting/transferring techniques.

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of your job position is to administer medications to residents and assist

with other aspects of their daily care and routine.

Qualifications:

• Successful completion of Med Tech training program
• Minimum of six months’ experience in long term care, home care, or a related field, preferably as a Med Tech
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid CPR certification
• Speak, read, and understand the English language

Responsibilities:

• Read and implement care/activities of daily living (ADLs) according to resident service plan within the scope of practice of certification or licensure.
• Responds to resident needs, pendant calls, and other community alarms in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates empathy and develops caring rapport with residents.
• Communicates clearly, professionally, and timely.
• Communicates change of condition in any resident to nursing in a timely and effective manner.
• Demonstrates behavior, which maintains and respects resident rights and promotes independence, regardless of race, religion, lifestyle, sexual preference, and disease process.
• Addresses individual behavioral needs of the resident and demonstrates the ability to identify psychosocial needs.
• Track all orders for medication changes and/or refills - prepare medications for distribution up to 24 hours in advance
• Participate in and complete narcotic counts at the beginning and end of shift, reporting any and all discrepancies to supervisor(s) immediately
• Assist caregivers in the performance of their job duties and assume caregiver activities and responsibilities when needed.
• Provide assistance at mealtime with selecting meals, serving, eating, and clearing trays
• Transport residents as necessary assisting them into and out of bed, wheelchairs, etc. following all safety/lifting and transferring techniques - escorting them to/from meals, activities, or other transportation needs as requested or assigned
