Albany Center in Delmar, NY is actively seeking a Medication Room Supervisor for our Assisted Living Facility. This role oversees the MAP, audits medication passes, and ensures accurate ordering, refills, and storage, reporting to the Administrator. A valid RN license and leadership abilities are essential to guide a 6-person support team.

Candidates should be self-directed, proficient in English, and comfortable with computer-based recordkeeping and documentation.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid RN license.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Post high school coursework in medical services; college degree preferred.
• Able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
• Computer literate with ability to use word processing programs.
• Be self-directed with the ability to lead and supervise others.
• Serve as a role model for a support staff of 6.

Responsibilities

• Supervise medication pass including auditing for accuracy in pouring medication into individual medication cups.
• Ensure consistency between physician prescriptions, blister packs and poured medications.
• Ensure timely and accurate medication orders and renewals.
• Review refill log against stored medications and maintain records.
• Oversee storage, documentation, and destruction of medications as required.
• Maintain resident medication information and physician contacts.
• Coordinate staff scheduling and ensure attendance and compliance.
• Oversee controlled substances security and inventory.
• Communicate with Case Management regarding missed medications.
• Coordinate destruction of controlled substances with staff nurse and DOH.

Albany Center is actively seeking a Medication Room Supervisor for our Assisted Living Facility in Delmar, NY.

DUTIES:

The Medication Supervisor is a multi-tasking job that requires attention to detail and oversight of the medication assistance program (MAP). This includes daily check of the medication ordering, and refilling process, pharmacy issues, and observation of medication pass. The Medication Supervisor reports to the Administrator and consults with their peers for clarification and assistance to successfully effect the medication needs of the residents.

• Supervise medication pass including auditing for accuracy in pouring medication into individual medication cups
• Ensure consistency between the physician prescriptions, blister packs and medications poured for each resident.
• Ensure timely and accurate medication orders and medication renewals.
• Review medication refill log to compare with medication in storage cabinets.
• Review of “no-refill” orders in the refill log and fax requests of MDs.
• Review of receipt, storage and documentation of medications delivered.
• Maintain medical and medication information on all residents including a resident’s current primary and consulting physicians
• Maintain medication files in a cabinet stored in the medication room
• Maintain medication files in a cabinet stored in the medication room
• Review all missed medications as communicated and ensure appropriate follow up.
• Forward missed medications trends to Case Management.
• Oversee the management and destruction of controlled and non-controlled substances including safekeeping of controlled substances in double-locked medicine cabinet and medication room
• Review of controlled Inventory and documentation of listed medications.
• Ensure the proper storage of controlled substances not in use.
• Ensure the proper inventory of non-used controlled substances for destruction
• Coordinate the destruction of controlled substances with staff nurse and DOH.
• Schedule staff and ensure their attendance and compliance with job responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have a valid RN license
• At least 21 years of age
• Post high school course work in medical services; College degree preferred.
• Able to read, write, and communicate clearly in the English language.
• Computer literate with ability to use word processing programs.
• Familiarity with the needs of the infirm and elderly.
• Be self-directed with the ability to lead and supervise others.
• Able to compute simple mathematics relating to dosage etc
• Be well organized and capable of setting goals and meeting deadlines.
• Serve as a role model for a support staff of 6 more individuals.
